A nineteen-year-old girl who was in the final weeks of her pregnancy was killed Sunday evening in a car accident. Tiffany Woodham was riding in a van with a friend and stopped at a red light when a large pickup truck crashed into the rear of the van. The impact caused both vehicles to spin for about thirty feet.
One of the van passengers and the driver of the van were taken to Winter Haven Hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries. Another passenger was taken to Lakeland Regional Medical Center with serious injures. Woodham died en route to hospital. Once her body arrived, doctors unsuccessfully attempted to save the baby via cesarean section.
According to witnesses, the driver of the pickup truck had been driving erratically and ran off the road prior to crash. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office revealed that the driver had a .131 blood alcohol level after the crash and had been driving 83 miles per hour in a 60 mile per hour speed zone. He has been charged with two counts of vehicular homicide, two counts of diving under the influence manslaughter, two counts of driving under the influence with serious injury, driving under the influence involving property damage and driving under the influence.
