One Dead, Nine Injured in Arizona Bus Crash

521-fng3z.St.55.jpeg A pickup truck headed the wrong way on an Arizona interstate is responsible injuring nine people about a charter bus. The driver crashed head first into a charter bus and burst into flames outside of Phoenix. While authorities could not determine if the driver was killed by the impact of the crash of the fire, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators are still looking into the crash scene and are still trying to determine if drugs or alcohol played any role.

None of the nine injured bus passengers sustained life-threatening injuries. Two were flown to a nearby hospital while the other seven were transported via ambulance to the same hospital. “Generally when you have a vehicle going the wrong way on an interstate, you’d think it would be much worse than this,” said the bus driver, who was not injured in the crash. At the accident scene, an 18-wheeler jackknifed and hit the side of the bus, but most of the damage was done by the pickup truck. The crash shut down the Interstate for hours.

Motor vehicle accidents involving a single car can be traumatic, but an accident involving a bus can be catastrophic. Bus accidents cause more serious injuries than typical car accidents. Bus passengers get tossed into walls and fall into aisles because of the lack of seatbelts. Buses can cause substantial damage to cars and can seriously injure passengers. Children are more susceptible to sustain injuries from motor vehicle accidents and can often suffer traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries and even wrongful death.
