One Dead, Two Injured in Port St. Lucie Head-On Collision

A head-on collision in Port St. Lucie Tuesday afternoon took the life of a sixty-one-year-old woman and injured two men. The Florida Highway Patrol reported that Patricia E. Berzler, a resident of Port St. Lucie, was pronounced dead after she was transported to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center in Fort Pierce. The passenger in Berzler’s vehicle, sixty-four-year-old Robert Berzler, remained in critical condition Tuesday at Lawnwood.

John Rudolph Bologna, a forty-nine-year-old resident of Stuart, was the driver of the second vehicle involved in the crash. He was transported to St. Lucie Medical Center in Port St. Lucie in serious condition. According to the FHP report, the collision occurred around 2:45 p.m. on U.S. 1, north of Northeast Riomar Drive. FHP reported that Patricia Berzler was traveling north on U.S. 1 when she lost control of her Toyota Rav4 and swerved onto the median. Berzler hit an oak tree and continued traveling northwest until she came into contact with Bologna’s Toyota Tacoma traveling southbound. Berzler hit the front of the Tacoma. FHP says that the crash remains under investigation.
