A St. Charles Parish sheriff’s deputy died Sunday evening in a multi-car crash in Luling, Louisiana. The accident occurred at approximately 8:45 p.m. close to the intersection of Post Drive and Paul Millard Road. The deputy who died was later identified as twelve-year veteran Jeff Watson. According to state police, Watson was driving a marked police car and responding to a call when the accident occurred.
As Watson was traveling down the road, a pickup truck pulled out in front of him. Watson swerved, but was unable to avoid contact with the vehicle. Troopers said that Watson side-swiped the truck and then crashed into a southbound SUV head-on. The SUV then hit a motorcycle. Watson was pronounced dead at the accident scene. The SUV driver was transported to New Orleans’ University Hospital with critical injuries. The motorcycle and pickup drivers each sustained minor injuries.
