A nineteen-year-old woman was driving along a Pennsylvania Interstate when a tire hit her car. The tire came off a Jeep Grand Cherokee as both cars were making their way down opposite sides of Interstate 376, also known as Parkway West. Police are still investigating what caused the tire to fall off the moving sport utility vehicle. The tire detached from the car, bounced over the concrete barrier and hit the roof of Katie Puwalowski’s, the victim, car.
Puwalowski was taken to University of Pittsburgh Medical Center’s Mercy Hospital after the accident, where she later died. Her passenger was treated for minor injuries and released from another local hospital. The driver of the Jeep Grand Cherokee was not injured when the tire was lost.
