One person is dead and three others are in the hospital suffering from injuries sustained in a “violent collision” on South Dixie Highway in Lantana Tuesday night. According to a Palm Beach County Sheriff’s traffic report, Robert Simpson, 84, of Lake Worth was driving a 2012 Suzuki north around 6:30 p.m. in the 500 block of South Dixie Highway in Lantana. Billie Sue Simpson, 79, of Lake Worth was the passenger in that vehicle.
Waymon Criswell, 81, of Boynton Beach, was travelling south in the same area in a 2006 Toyota Rav4. Linda Criswell, 59, was the passenger in that vehicle. Simpson, for reasons unknown at this time, drove across the median and into the southbound lanes, crossing Criswell’s path. At that time, the driver’s side of Simpson’s vehicle crashed into the driver’s side of Criswell’s vehicle, causing a “violent collision,” according to the traffic report.
Robert Simpson and the Criswells were taken to JFK Hospital in Atlantis. The Criswells are both in serious condition and Mr. Simpson is in critical condition. Billie Sue Simpson was transported to Delray Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead. Investigations reveal that everyone involved in the crash was wearing a seatbelt and that the use of alcohol or drugs is not suspected in the crash.
