Six Injured and I-95 Southbound Shut Down after Labor Day Crash

Two people were left in critical condition Sunday night when a two-car accident occurred on Interstate-95 in Miami-Dade County. As of Monday morning at 12:30 a.m., all southbound lanes were closed on the expressway. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, six people were injured in the crash at the Northwest 103rd Street exit.

The expressway remained closed early Monday, which altered travel plans for thousands of Labor Day Weekend motorists. These drivers had to be rerouted off the highway to avoid the debris that covered all lanes on the road. FHP said it was around 9:50 p.m. Sunday when a southbound driver lost control, hit the guardrail, the wall, and then finally crashed into another vehicle. Two of the four passengers in the first car were ejected onto the roadway during the accident. These passengers were in critical condition when they were transported to the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital. The other two passengers were in stable condition when they were taken to the hospital and were later released. Authorities said the vehicle that was struck sustained damage and the passengers within suffered minor injuries.

At this time, it is unclear why the driver of the first car lost control. This could have happened for many reasons, including excessive speed, distracted driving, a medical episode, or a defective part in the automobile.
